The Components Engineer is responsible for leading the part lifecycle management, selection, and maintenance activities in support of Avionic Instruments’ (AI) new and existing products. Avionic Instruments LLC designs and manufactures military and commercial aerospace power conversion and distribution products. The position requires close collaboration with Engineering, Program Management, Procurement, and Operations to ensure on-time delivery and long-term sustainment of AI products.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical direction in the identification/selection of primary and alternate active/passive components in support of new and existing AI designs
- Lead in managing and executing of the component Obsolescence Management Plan (OMP)
- Support AI and our customer SDRLs for diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) reporting
- Collaborate with Purchasing/Production teams to keep current on availability/end-of-life status for AI components to allow proper planning across all company disciplines for alternate selection, re-design, life-time-buy, or product end-of-life dispositions
- Select component alternates to overcome lead time and availability issues
- Maintain part catalog technical data and work with component manufacturers in support of failure investigations
- Coordinate, plan, and schedule testing of alternate components for compliance and reliability analysis
- Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) in support of obsolescence efforts
- Review new technologies and quality trends and make recommendations for improved reliability
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar technical discipline) is preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of microelectronics and electro-mechanical packaging fabrication/assembly processes
- Ability to read and understand specifications, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, datasheets, military & commercial standards, necessary to assess compliance
- Strong analytic and communication skills, including ability to write concise findings reports
